Car Seats Have Become Safer

Posted on Mar 30, 2009 under Uncategorized | No Comment

These days many people take car seats for granted. However for many people these seats are a recent development that was not in use when they were children. What is all the fuss about needing kids in car seats? Many would find it odd now but not that many years ago car seats and even seat belts were rarely used.

Unfortunately it was the result of many children being injured and killed in car accidents that generated the interest in developing car seats as early as the 1930’s. But it was not until the 1970’s that laws began to go into effect that required children to be in car seats.

By the mid 80’s car seats had become very common. While these car seats were not the greatest in the way of safety they helped. Today great car seat companies manufacture car seats like the Britax Boulevard car seat. These excellent child safety seats are built to really protect your kids in the event of an accident. They have taken the accumulated knowledge of the past years and designed some excellent child restraint systems.

The new car seat designs are greatly different from the safety seats of the past. The research has paid dividends by enabling manufacturers to create seats that are much better able to protect the lives of children. At the same time the comfort of the seats has been enhanced making it much more enjoyable for the child to ride in.

More car seats today are designed to be convertible from rear facing to forward facing allowing you to buy one car seat that will last most of the years your child will need to be in a car seat or booster. For example several car seats like the Britax Boulevard make it possible for the child to be in the seat until they are 65 pounds.

The design and technology put into child restraint systems today is very advanced and it has enabled many lives to be saved  each year. Yet it is critical that you buckle them in and tighten the harnesses correctly properly. The best technology will not overcome a lose harness that allows the child slip out.

Do not let the routine of life cause you to overlook the need to ensure that your child is correctly buckled into their car seat. It only takes a few extra seconds to double check that all is secure and in place. Do not let yourself get distracted with the anything at this crucial moment and put your child at risk.

Single mum and son make it big in perfume business

Posted on Mar 29, 2009 under Uncategorized | No Comment

After three decades of working in a small and cramped perfume store in Penang, Saffar Noor quit her job and started her own perfume business. The single mother and her son, Josafri Johari collected all their own money and opened a perfume factory in Glugor, Penang in late April 2007. The pair buy fine fragrances from Egypt and bottle them in Malaysia under their own label, ‘One Drop’. A collection of eight bottles is sold at a very reasonable RM40. They had modelled their own store on a popular London perfume shop which they both adore. They employed a local perfumer, who formerly worked at the houses of Escada and Armani and is now in Paris creating a new range of perfume for them. The products are sold through various dealers and distributors for more than 500,000 users in Malaysia alone. They are now looking to branch their business out and target a more global audience to make maximum profit.
The initial idea originated from when the single mother was asked to sell Tudung material for commissions. Since then she has had a yearning for sales and entrepreneurial business. Saffar then moved onto to selling cosmetics and perfume for commissions were she then begun her own company. When she started her own business the perfume sold so well that she appointed numerous “agents” at hotels, factories and in the high street to sell it. Now she has reached a global level with her interesting story of success and she is sure to be getting some more as she has recently been offered a unqiue contract from L’Oreal cosmetics in Paris which she has gladly accepted. She will still get to keep her own brand but the rights will be exclusive to L’Oreal.
Her story has truly been inspiring to many single mothers across the world and there is no reason as to why someone else could not adopt the same ethos and start up their very own business from home.

Criminals Use Phishing Emails to Steal Your Information

Posted on Mar 28, 2009 under Uncategorized | No Comment

As a pretty recent approach, phishing is being used by criminals who are committed to getting ahold of your identity or gaining access to other information that is personal to you. Bulk emails are sent that imitate emails sent by real companies, hoping that you click on links which will take you to a site whose sole purpose is to get your information away from you.

With the phishing technique, criminals make emails that are modeled after emails companies that you have done business with might send out. Through these fake emails, you are told to click on links which will have you end up on a bogus website, again modeled after the real company website. You are duped into giving out your valuable information which is used by the criminal. This is a perfect reason to use a identity theft fraud protection service.

Media outlets have been devoting more scrutiny to this criminal activity because they are becoming more popular. The entire phishing process has become very advanced, which is making it very difficult to distinguish if you are in receipt of a phishing email, or have found yourself on a phishing website. Therefore, it is very vital that you be paying attention to the emails you receive and links you click on.

Phishing schemes might be thought of as a form of evolved spam. Most spam is merely an advertisement trying to get you to click through to a site and make a purchase. The advent of phishing brings spam to a whole new level as they are trying to fool you into going to a site and providing valuable personal information to the criminals.

Of course, once they have gotten your personal information, the thief has free reign to do what they wish with your information. An example of this would be if you were to give out your login information to your online banking, the criminal could log into your online account and do what they want with your information and money. Really, the sky is the limit.

These criminal websites are up for a very limited time, which means that even if you were able to notify law enforcement about the criminal activity, they most likely couldn’t do anything. All the criminals need is a short bit of time to dupe a small number of people to provide the information the thieves are seeking, then they are long gone.

And because most of the complex phishing schemes are run by foreign criminal syndicates, even if the authorities could track them down, there is not much that they can do. Your best defense to a phishing scheme is to refrain from clicking on any link in an email and to protect your identity with some sort of Trusted ID plan.

The technique known as phishing is yet another way criminal organizations are using powerful methods to steal your personal information so that they can use it for evil reasons. Keep a sharp eye out for any email that appear to come from a financial institution or other business you might do business with. And to be safe, consider using a stolen identity protection service.

Methods to Save Money On Your Water Bill

Posted on Mar 27, 2009 under Uncategorized | No Comment

Water conservation is a must these days because even if it is abundant, this is something we have to pay for as reflected in the water bill. Just like electricity and gas, this may go up or down on a monthly basis so you should know the different Ways to Be Frugal for this utility.

The first way to Save Money will be to check for leaks. You can do this by inspecting the pipes under your kitchen sink or the pipes in your basement. Another test to check for leaks will be to turn off your water and inspect the rest of the house.

Another place that leaks frequently is the bathroom. The best way to check if there is a leak here is to use some food coloring and if the color should spread, it means one of the pipes has a problem and this should either be repaired or replaced.

While you are still in the bathroom, check your toilet . By placing a water bottle in the tank, you get to consume half the volume of water that you used to consume whenever you have to flush it.

People who have a water heater know that it takes time before warm water comes out of the shower. You can speed up the time it takes for the water to get warmer by insulating the pipes so hot water comes out once you turn on the knob.

Another way to Save will be to replace the old shower head with one of the water saving models and your faucet with a low flow faucet aerator. These things are not new and if you visit the hardware store, you will see the different models to choose from so just pick from the selection which one is the best value for your money.

Whenever you wash the dishes or take a shower, turn off the faucet first until it is time to rinse. The same goes when you are shaving or brushing your teeth because this can save 10 to 20 gallons of water which is a huge savings again on your water bill.

If you have to use the dishwasher or the washing machine, make sure to do it only when you have  a full load. We all know that this is sometimes not possible so when this happens, adjust the water level so you will only use the correct volume rather than wasting it.

As for water from  the washing machine, don’t just throw it away and instead use it to water the plants, clean the car or wash the driveway.

Unlike other things that you spend on, you can’t expect to switch from one water provider to another since there is only one in a given area. This means that you have to practice the different Ways to Be Frugal  so you don’t have to pay that much the next time you get your water bill.

If you review the different Methods to Spend Less as mentioned, these are things that anyone can do so you shouldn’t have any problems. In fact, leaks are normal due to wear are tear and this can be avoided if you inspect your pipes on a regular basis or have a local plumber do it.

How to Tell if You’re Netflix Subscription is Worth It

Posted on Mar 26, 2009 under Uncategorized | No Comment

FeedFlix Review

At one point or another while you’ve been renting movies from Netflix, you have probably wanted to know whether you were able to justify the cost of your monthly subscription. Really, who has never done this?  A new web application has come along that will show you objectively if you really are getting your money’s worth out of Netflix.

FeedFlix is free, and functions by gathering RSS feeds from the Netflix service in order to compile usage statistics for you and other FeedFlix users. With it you can see in objective terms how much value you’re getting out of Netflix.

Getting started with the FeedFlix service is fast and painless (I mean one minute fast). After going to FeedFlix, you’ll see a large “Connect to Netflix” button. FeedFlix is an independent web site, meaning it is in no way associated with Netflix, but it does access the Netflix API to access your RSS feed. To authorize this, you’ll need to generate a token on the Netflix site (done for you with authorization).

After this is done, FeedFlix will start analyzing your usage data. Within a few minutes, your home page should be filled with some interesting numbers. Check out the video walk-through above to see how this looks, but here are some interesting measures you’ll find:

  • How many movies you rent per month
  • How long you hold movies on average
  • The calculated cost per DVD delivered to your door
  • Average cost per total rentals (physical plus on demand)
  • Trend chart of your weekly rentals
  • What percentile your statistics place you in

You’ll also find some interesting aggregate information about users of the Netflix service in general. For example, how your usage and return rates compare to others, what the most requested movies are, which movies are stocked in the largest quantities, historical rentals and favorites, and more.

What makes the tool so interesting is its singular focus. It will tell you at a glance if you really are getting your money’s worth out of Netflix.

For more information about FeedFlix, You might want to look at this detailed FeedFlix review.

Being an active and longtime online DVD rental fan, I have some inside perspectives on both Blockbuster and Netflix. Check out my Blockbuster and Netflix comparison if you’re thinking about joining one of these rental plans. It is the most comprehensive, objective review available for these two services.

Plumbing experience at Providence

Posted on Mar 25, 2009 under Uncategorized | No Comment

Learning how to repair a device is tougher than what a common person would find it to be. The preliminary sign of a device not working is detected through leaks in the device. A common problem observed in valves is that of water flow not jerking even after the tap is shut A problem like this is best handled when you have your Providence Plumber knowing that. In such a case, firstly, water supply needs to be turned off and the device needs to be disassembled. The corrosion on the device is the most ordinary cause of the water not stopping once the tap is shut. Therefore, the plumber is now required to oil the valve and a compound mixture. After the disc is coated with that, the valve needs to be re assembled. After letting the layer dry up for 5 minutes, the tap should be opened, and the water supply should be inspected to see if there is still any leakage. But sometimes the valve might be functioning appropriately; yet, there might be a problem with water supply operation from the tap. In such a case, the other fitting components should be examined carefully, after disassembling them. The defective parts should be repaired or replaced and the valve should be reassembled again. Providence Plumbers are also good at handling spigot. Due to everyday use, these get run down and need to be put again. The spigot which contains a stem, cap nut and handle, need to be dismantled. After this, the washer part needs to be taken removed. Once this also is done, a new washer piece is planted and secured with a screw. The above log of simple steps has been designed to make Providence plumbing contractors tand out to being less cumbersome to understand and more simplistic to use. Do not forget to call on our Toll free number for any doubts required on the simple steps that are manualed by us. We provide to you a less complex telephonic re-run on the line for our Plumbing customers. Do this and observe Providence Plumbing converting into a no-pain job for you soon. Now dismantling your old device is least cumbersome than ever, so is the putting together of the new replacement.

How to fit a fuse with no fuss

Posted on Mar 23, 2009 under Uncategorized | No Comment

Whenever you buy an electrical appliance in the UK, it should automatically come with a plug already fitted to the device – either directly connected to the appliance or as a power lead which simply just needs plugging in. However, when you need to change a plug on an appliance around the house you need to know exactly what you’re doing to avoid any danger. Electrocuting yourself is a common form of danger in any household and I have listed some key points to help keep you safe when you’re doing these kinds of jobs in the house.
So, before trying to fit a plug it is worth understanding a little about how it works and the design of it. You should also be aware the official electrical voltage for mains electricity in the UK is 230V, although it is often referred to as 240V. However, there is a tolerance range which power companies may operate within, so many have chosen to provide 240V worth of electricity. So, we know about the voltage yet it is also important to understand all the bits that make the plug work such as the fuses and the ‘Flex’. A length of flex will usually comprise of three insulated conductors, encased in an insulating sheath. Each of the conductors should have different colour insulation, according to the terminal it should be connected to:
•    Brown – Live
•    Blue – Neutral
•    Yellow and Green – Earth
If you have any appliances around the house which are older you might find this guide will apply to you:
•    Red – Live
•    Black – Neutral
•    Green – Earth
The reason for this very small change is because red and green are two colours which are subject to colour blindness. The wire colours were later changed to avoid any serious consequences of getting those cables completely confused with each other which could end up in disaster.

Make Moving Home Easier

Posted on Mar 22, 2009 under Uncategorized | No Comment

Moving house is not something that most of us look forward to, no matter where you are.  That stress is magnified several times over if you’re looking at London removals.   Unless you have very few possessions, call in the professionals to help you move house. It will relieve some of the stress of the big move. You can arrange for it all to be done for you or you can do the packing yourself but leave the heavy stuff to the experts.   Amber Moves are just such an expert, having been involved in the London removals business for more than 15 years.  Here are some tips from them on handling the big day:
Moving home is a great opportunity to sort out your possessions. Throw away or recycle your rubbish and separate items that can be given to friends or sold to charity shops.   That doesn’t just cover small items.  If you have bits of furniture or beds that you don’t need any more, organisations like the FRN (Furniture Re-use Network)   would welcome them and even collect.  The FRN supports charitable re-use organisations and helps very poor households get furniture, white goods and other household items at affordable prices.
Hire your removal company at least two weeks before you move and remember that you may also have to apply for parking dispensations from your local authority for the removal van itself.    Do get at least three quotes from companies before deciding and try to select a removal company that is a member of the British Association of Removers (BAR).That way, you’ll know that they are a professional company and have adequate insurance cover.   Traditionally the last Friday of every month is the busiest moving date in the removals calendar, but it’s still worthwhile checking if the company offers a discount on a weekday.
Get packing boxes well in advance from local shops or a few supermarkets, and save newspapers for wrapping breakables. Book your removal company at least two weeks in advance of the proposed moving date, and remember that specific timings are important.  If you are completing your move and awaiting keys for the new house, you don’t want to start too early and pay for waiting time at the other end, but you should be out of your old property in time for the new owners arriving to move their furniture in.
If packing yourself, remember that books and records are deceptively heavy, so don’t overfill boxes or crates.  Drawers in chests can be left filled with linen and clothes but it’s a good idea to at least hire wardrobe boxes for the contents of wardrobes.   Fridges and freezers should be emptied and defrosted and cookers should be cleaned thoroughly to avoid accidents with loose glass etc.
It will also help if you let your chosen removal company know the amount of furniture you’re moving, so it can choose an adequately sized truck and plan the number of journeys that you will need between your old and new home.   Give them a rough guess of how many boxes you’ll need to pack and tell the mover the exact time you want the team to arrive.Provide clear instructions and directions to your new property and always tell the removal firm well in advance of pieces of furniture which won’t go through the door – making a plan of where the furniture needs to go in your new home or agreeing a colour coding system with all sorts of stickers etc is always helpful.
