IVAs and How They Work

Posted on May 30, 2009 under Uncategorized | No Comment

If you come to the conclusion that just trying to pay off your existing unsecured debts (bearing in mind that interest will continually be added) is impossible within your income level or would leave you in poverty for years to come, then your options at first appear limited to bankruptcy.

For many people, bankruptcy could actually end up being the cheapest way to resolve their debt situation.  It costs around £500 to make yourself bankrupt at the local County Court, but this “last resort” action does have severe and long lasting consequences, especially on your ability to gain credit in future and should be avoided if at all possible!

Other, less drastic options include a consolidation loan.  You’ve seen them advertised on the TV!  Take out a (usually secured) loan and lump all your debts into one monthly repayment. Not only does this mean putting your home at risk, but if you are in this position, your credit score and rating may mean you can’t get such a loan in the first place.

You could get a debt management company to negotiate with your creditors to accept a reduced payment schedule. Creditors are under no legal obligation to accept reduced payments or a suspension of interest in this way, so each creditor would have to be approached individually and of course you do have to pay all your debts in full. It’s costly, time consuming and if the debt management company is unsuccessful in stopping interest you’ll probably end up being charged more in interest than you are making in payments, which means you’ll never get out of debt!

A better option is to consider entering into an IVA (Individual Voluntary Arrangement).  This is a legally binding deal lasting five years that’s brokered by a licensed Insolvency Practitioner who puts forward a single repayment proposal to all your creditors.  Within 24 hours the Insolvency Practitioner will make contact with your creditors and at that point they are bound legally not to hound you any further. The insolvency Practitioner will make an offer to your creditors of somewhere between 30%-50% of what’s owed and in most cases interest is dramatically reduced or even frozen.Your creditors then vote to decide whether to accept the proposed IVA.If 75% (that’s by value of the debt you owe them – not ¾ of all the people you owe money to) of your creditors do accept it, then it’s binding on everyone, even those who voted against it.

The usual minimum level of acceptable monthly repayment for an IVA is £300.00, it’s really only suitable for larger debt cases (i.e. if you owe more than £20,000.00) to at least three or more creditors.  If you are a homeowner with a level of equity in your property that’s more than the total of your unsecured debts, then an IVA proposal will probably not be accepted.Your creditors will require you to re-mortgage or sell the property to pay off the debts in full. IVAs are also not suitable for people living on state benefits as their main or only source of income, as the level of these benefits has been set to allow solely for living expenses.

If you’re not in those circumstances above, and you’re are certain you’ll be able to make consistent payments towards an IVA from your earnings of at least £300 per month for five years, then an IVA is a good option.Unlike debt management, an IVA is a “full and final” settlement which means that any debt still outstanding is permanently written off and you are free of debt.  An IVA is an affordable and workable solution to serious debt problems, and a must against bankruptcy.

UK Schools Ban Yet Another Playground Game

Posted on May 29, 2009 under Uncategorized | No Comment

The games that children play in the playground come and go all the time. They are carefully mapped out by children one day, played for a little and then forgotten about in place of something new. One game however has been around for longer than ever and is passed down from generation to generation. This game is popularly known as ‘tag’. This basically involves one or more people being ‘on’ and chasing others around the playground ‘tagging’ other people. When someone has been ‘tagged’ they become the chaser and the person who tagged them are free to be chased. It’s a very simple game that promotes agility and spatial awareness, as well as improves teamwork and of course fitness levels.  You don’t need any expensive toys, and also it can be played anywhere.

Those in charge of Education in the UK however, belief that the game is potentially unsafe and is often discriminatory. Thus, they do not want to see it taking place in schools. Their argument is that children are getting injured during the game by falling on the hard ground where it is usually played. They also say that the game can often escalate into a more physical tussle when there become agreement over whether someone has been caught or not.  Their second grievance with the game is that people tend to get left out and this promotes segregation.Harold James from the Education Committee says “the unpopular children are often not chosen to take part in the game or are ignored all together….games that are inclusive are preferable”. Mr James went on to comment on the fact the the game can easily exclude people with disabilities as they find it difficult to take part and compete.

Games that the government have already put a stop to include british bulldog, mercy, kiss chase and conkers. It does leave you wondering what children are allowed to do these days  and whether we are wrapping our children in cotton wool just a little too much. We need to take the wheels from the trainer bikes someday don’t we?

Airbeds Can Aid People Get A More Relaxing Sleep

Posted on May 27, 2009 under Uncategorized | No Comment

Continue reading if you like riddles You can take it on a summer camping trip You can take it your to your college dorm It’s perfect company for a sleep-over at your friend’s house The simple answer to this riddle is airbeds

The riddle portrays common circumstances. At one time or another, most people must have considered buying airbeds . There are so many models and types to choose from . An informed choice could be achieved with research. Price is not a firm indication . The best choice may not be the cheapest or the costliest. I personally love sleeping on my inflatable double bed

All the necessary accessories must go with airbeds . It must have an air pump otherwise the purchase would be useless. The product catalog should be consulted thoroughly. Ask yourself whether the airbed will be used permanently or just for a temporary period of time. Make up your mind on the extra features such as built-in pillow, adjustment mechanisms or air pump system .

Bear in mind that an airbed is quite different from a regular mattress. Regular beds are more comfortable even though an airbed has been designed well. An airbed with a good foam would be a superb choice. This padding is on top of the plastic housing of the airbed . Memory foam as this top layer offer an excellent choice. This type of foam provides the right padding so you won’t feel just lying on air bladders . This foam should be just about like having a regular mattress to sleep on. I keep a inflatable single bed in my guestroom.

To avoid higher shipping costs, try to go for the ready-to-assemble beds. These airbed models have frames or components to arrange. It is therefore a necessity that your skill level is enough for such an assembly. If you are bringing the airbed for camping, better choose those with sturdy design and portable power supply for the pumps .

One good airbed to consider is the Simmons Beauty Rest . Travelling couples who would want to sleep together will be happy with this multiple-capacity airbed. The weight limit capacity of these air beds has to be checked though if you expect more than two persons to sleep on it .

If you wish to go for a really high-end airbed, the Somma Air Mattress is one of the choices . With its high price matched with its higher quality, this airbed works more as a permanent bed . Another homebound airbed is the Serta Air Mattress . However, it has a pump with limited power storage system requiring frequent recharge.

Convenience is the main selling point of the Wenzel Air Mattress, which has a pump built in . Carrying an external pump is not necessary, but you’ll need batteries to make the pump work.

There’s an especially designed airbed for babies, the Air Flow Mattress . This airbed purportedly helps prevent the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) that afflicts newborns. Designs of this airbed are crib-friendly, allowing constant air flow to the infants to help prevent SIDS. All my kids sleep on a my first ready bed.

Fundamentally, parents must understand that much more time/effort has to be invested in raising ADD children. A difficult concept for older generations to accept is that: There is no such thing as a “BAD CHILD” that lacks “DISCIPLINE”. ADD children require additional supports/training to enable them to be successful. Here are a few tricks and tips that I have assembled from various sources (including books, seminars and practice). The Calendar helps members coordinate schedules and alert one another of upcoming events that might be of interest.

Is there a risk of choking when my baby sleeps on his or her back?
No, babies automatically swallow or cough up fluids. Doctors have found no increase in choking or other problems in babies sleeping on their backs.Updates are sent to you according to your preferences set for each group. This can be as frequent as “Immediate,” for groups you want to actively monitor; it can also be set to Daily, Weekly, or Never.

What about side sleeping?
To keep your baby safest when he or she is sleeping, always use the back sleep position rather than the side position. Babies who sleep on their sides can roll onto their stomachs. A baby sleeping on his or her stomach is at greater risk of SIDS. Some infants may have health conditions that require them to sleep on their stomachs. If you are unsure about the best sleep position for your baby, be sure to talk to your doctor or nurse. is a website for moms, enabling them to connect with people and information via trusted relationships. Grocery Shopping Secrets

Posted on May 25, 2009 under Uncategorized | No Comment

Do you read the labels when you choose your food? Do you think you understand what they really mean? You may have to change your thinking. Here are some of the grocery shopping secrets you need to know.

Grocery Shopping Secrets – Lying Labels

Read labels much and you’ll  notice that almost all packaged products have hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oil in them. This is the stuff scientists give to mice to cause heart disease when they want to study that disease! The good news is that, due to consumer demand, some brands have stopped using it in some of their products. The bad news is that it is still in well over half of all packaged grocery products.

Look at those labels when you’re grocery shopping, and you’ll also see that sugar is showing up in almost everything. It is even added to most brands of kidney beans, which used to be packed in just water and salt. Why add sugar? Two reasons. The first is simply that our taste buds have come to crave sweetness. This, however, doesn’t explain why it is in things like kidney beans. That is a bigger secret.

Sugar is added to kidney beans,  peanut butter and many other products that don’t need it for taste because these are convenient places to dump it. You see, sugar is cheap – cheaper than the other ingredients. Government subsidies have helped produce so much cheap sugar that growers need to dump it into as many products as they can. This works well for the makers of food products. Sugar in place of the more expensive peanuts in that peanut butter means more profit.

Here an even nastier secret: Manufacturers are lying about the amount of sugar they put in their products. You may be aware that they have to list the ingredients on the label in order, according to quantity. But what if they have a product that has more sugar than anything else? They don’t want it at the top of the list where everyone can see that it is the primary ingredient, right?

This is how they hide it: They put three types of sugar into the product, so that no one of them is a larger amount than whatever “healthy” ingredient they want to appear at the top of the list. For example, suppose you read on that juice bottle label, “cranberry juice, corn syrup, sugar, high fructose corn syrup and vitamin C.”

It looks like the primary ingredient is just natural juice. Perhaps the real story is: 27% juice, 25% corn syrup, 24% sugar, 23 % high fructose corn syrup, 1% Vitamin C. The three types of sugar could add up to 72% of the entire bottle’s contents! (Not likely, but you get the point.) This little trick is becoming depressingly common.

Think you are buying whole wheat products? Whole wheat bread  is only whole wheat if it says 100% whole wheat. In fact, even then you should look closer. It might actually say, “Contains 100% whole wheat,” which just means they at least threw one wheat grain in there.

“Wheat bread,” “wheat flour,” “unbleached wheat flour,” and “wheat,” all just mean some variety of processed white flour that originated from wheat grain. “Wheat” bread is usually nothing more than white bread with enough whole grain thrown in to color it. “Wheat blend” pasta is the latest trick to make you think you’re buying whole wheat. It is again just white flour (always the first ingredient, if you look on the label) with enough whole wheat “blended” in to let you feel you are buying a healthier food, so they can charge more.

Here is one more grocery shopping secret for those who want healthier fruits and vegetables. Most frozen fruits and vegetables, when tested against “fresh” fruits and vegetables, have more vitamin content. Why? The flash-freezing that is done shortly after they are picked, preserves the vitamins. “Fresh” fruits and vegetables are in trucks for days, exposed to heat and air, then sit at the grocery store for days, and finally in your refrigerator for days. They lose much of their vitamin content as a result of this treatment. Frozen fruits and veggies can be healthier, and they are even cheaper at times, like when the particular fruit or vegetable isn’t in season.

Soy Candles – How to Make Them

Posted on May 24, 2009 under Uncategorized | No Comment

There are nine basic steps in how to make soy candles.  Each step needs to be carefully followed.

First: Measure

The first step in how to make candles (soy candles) is to decide what type of candle to make because then the soy wax has to be carefully measured out according to the type and amount to be made. For the purposes of this article, the center will be on votive candles, which need about two ounces of soy was per candle.  It is always easiest to work with even numbers, so making eight votive candles at a time requires sixteen ounces of wax, or one pound.

Second: Melt

The next step in how to make soy candles is to melt the wax.  There are two ways to do it.  The first is to buy a wax melter, which can be found in almost any kitchenware section for as little as twenty dollars. An additional choice is to use a double boiler, which works but is a much slower method of heating the wax.Wax have to by no means be melted directly on the stove because it has a flash point (290 degrees) where it will rupture into flames.

Third: Dye

The third step in how to make soy candles is to add the dye to the wax and to stir it in with a wire whisk.  The dye must be candle dye, not food coloring or it will damage the final outcome of the candle.Crayons might also be used to color the candle, but it takes more time since the wax has to melt into the soy wax.

Fourth: Fragrance

The rule of thumb for adding fragrance to the candle wax is about one and a half ounces of fragrance for every pound of candle wax.  When adding the fragrance, the candle wax should remain at about 170 degrees in order for the fragrance to bind properly to the wax.Mix the fragrance for two minutes before moving on to the next step.

Fifth: Reducing Heat

The fifth step in how to make candles (soy candles) is to reduce the heat from 170 degrees to 150-155 degrees.  The votive candle molds should also be warmed in the oven to just barely above room temperature to ensure a smooth release from the molds after cooling.

Sixth: Pouring Candles

When the wax is cooled properly, pour the wax into the molds using either a Pyrex measuring cup or a pour pot.  Fill each holder to the top.

Seventh: Wicks

Once the candles have cooled to the point that there is a thin skin over the top of the holders, it is time for the wicks.  Make sure each wick is straightened and ready to insert.Grip the wick at the top and shove the bottom of it all the way to the bottom of the container.  Make sure it stays straight and centered.

Eighth: Smoothing Imperfections

Even if the candle maker is careful in pressing the wick into the candle, there is still s slight depression made in the skin that had formed over the top.The only method to level the imperfection is to hold a flame over the top of the candle to re-melt the wax.  This has to be done carefully or the wick will become scorched as well.

Ninth: Candle

The final step in how to make candles (soy candles) is waiting about five hours for the candles to cool and set.Once the time has gone by all it takes is a mild tug on the wick and the candle comes right out!

Puppies and Biting? Put a Stop to this Problem in a Humane Manner

Posted on May 23, 2009 under Uncategorized | No Comment

Dog owners that love their pets often encounter many problems that they need to resolve when it comes to the behaviour of their pet. One of the most common, found at the puppy stage is biting. This often starts when you start to play with your puppy. Biting puppies will continue the habit unchecked unless steps are taken to break the habit (stop puppy biting quickly). This can be done by using a pleasant method.

When puppies are young they are teething and this is a natural part of their development. They will in this phase bite almost anything including your skin and human parts such as fingers and toes. At this stage they are curious about their environment and will need to learn acceptable and unacceptable actions. This can be a tedious task to go through but is a needed part of the “how to stop puppy biting” process.

The faster puppy biting problems are solved the better it will be for further training of your dog. So, how to stop puppies from biting? Is this process hard to do? The answer is no, the process of stopping puppy biting is a trainable task that can be completed easily.

At the puppy stage most puppies bite but in order to correct this behaviour the puppy must see that its owner is serious and stern about correcting this bad habit, no matter which method of dog training is used.

Correcting the problem of puppy biting is often done with the favorite technique used by many trainers known as guilt therapy. This is where the puppy is made to believe that they are causing pain when they bite a human. This builds on the natural behaviour of puppies where when they play together they engage in biting but this stops once a yelp of pain is heard. Humans can take advance of this natural learning and make the puppy believe – with some good acting – that they have caused pain. Coupling this with the withdrawal of affection and play for a short time will fast teach the puppy that biting is not acceptable.

Puppy biting? How to stop it? One key part is early detection of the issue. It is easier to stop this negative behaviour when the puppy is young.

Puppy training for biting may be as simple as the change of the attention of the puppy from biting a hand to another object. Chew toys and bones can be used to move the puppy from biting humans to these toys. Making certain they know they are being corrected using a stern voice and redirecting them is important. This may be all that is needed for young puppies to stop this habit before it starts.

This guide includes some of the best tips to stop a puppy from biting that you can quickly employ and do immediately. Enjoy them.

You can locate further information to stop puppies from biting in the Dog Training / Obedience resource area of the website DogTrainingCompare.

Tips On How to Deal With Stress

Posted on May 22, 2009 under Uncategorized | No Comment

It’s a safe bet that you’re not the only person right now wondering about tips for coping with stress    Anxiety, tension, frustration, and stress are facts of life for probably everyone and anyone these days, no matter what you do for a living and no matter what your personal situation.Even fun and enjoyable situations bring stress, from holiday dinners to pregnancy, weddings, retirement, new jobs, and moving.  So even when you have something fun and enjoyable coming up, you still need some pointers on how to deal with stress While sometimes big changes need to be made in order for you to adequately deal with the stress in your life, such as finding a new job if you’re unemployed or getting adequate treatment if you have a health concern, very often it’s just a few minor changes.

Changing your  routine or even to your thinking that can help in how to deal with stress Let’s take a look at some of these things we found in different books on stress

One of the best things you can do when it comes to how to deal with stress is to face those stressful situations head-on.This can be a difficult prospect because often we deal with stress and tension by hiding, shutting down, avoiding the situation, or "clamming up."  Rather than talking to a spouse or partner about an ongoing problem, we avoid it completely or give him or her the silent treatment.  This is not a good way of coping with stress as of course it won't make the situation go away and can cause confusion and resentment on everyone else's part. However if you think respectfully about your involvment in situations and what you can do to see the other persons side, this can help tremendously.  Very often just taking charge or taking responsibility for our own actions is a good way of how to deal with stress since this means feeling less helpless and frustrated at the situation.

How to deal with stress might also mean changing our own thinking about things.  It's easy to get irritated and tense every time our spouse or children or friends do something that we find annoying, but often it's the fact that we're overreacting that is causing the stress, not their little quirks and faults.  Ask yourself if you're overly critical and demanding, and also consider how well you would hold up if someone had these same standards for you!Changing our way of thinking and starting to compromise is a good way of dealing with stress as then we won't have as many confrontations.Often it's the fight expectations VS someone elses behavior that is causing the friction, and since it's not reasonable to expect perfection or to expect people to adapt to our preferences, changing our own attitude can be the key to dealing with stress Give these things some brutal, honest thought and see if perhaps it's not your own attitude and opinions that need to be changed and if that won't help to ease conflicts.
