How to Choose Fantasy Swords and Weapons

0

Fantasy weapons, and in particular fantasy swords, are obtainable in an extensive variety of styles including Highlander, Lord of the Rings, Samurai, Dragon and Final Fantasy swords. If you are in search of a fantasy sword you will want to be aware of what you will be using the sword for and what you should be looking for. There is a huge disparity in fantasy weapons that are intended for purely decorative use and those made to be functional or ‘battle ready’.. The best quality swords are usually pricey although there are a number offered below around 0.

Cheap Fantasy Weapons and Swords

A lot of the swords offered are manufactured in China or Pakistan and, whilst they look perfectly acceptable in a photo they are made very cheaply, which is noticeable when you receive them. They are badly produced, often with hilts that are loose and with brittle blades and scanty details. They are however, very cheap so you can’t expect too high a quality! If you solely need an ornamental sword to exhibit on the wall they may perhaps be suitable although if you only give $40 you can’t expect anything of better quality.

Decorative High Quality Weapons and Swords

There are many superior quality, decorative swords obtainable and one creator to be aware of is Kit Rae who has been making fantasy axes, knives and swords since 1984. Even though not ‘battle ready’ these stainless steel attractive fantasy weapons are excellent value for money. There are though many counterfeit Kit Rae swords as they are the ones copied the most by counterfeiters. Many sellers will show you pictures of true Kit Rae weapons then will sell you a fake one. Genuine Kit Rae swords can be bought from roughly $200. These are decorative rather than functional and are made from stainless steel. They are brilliant art works and are the best value decorative swords you will find.

Functional Fantasy Swords and Weapons

Fantasy designs are of course, fantasy! So to translate an ornamental fantasy sword to a working sword is not always possible. Some manufacturers have managed to bring together the fantasy element with function to make a satisfactory functional fantasy sword. An example is the Dark Sentinel Sword manufactured by the Hanwei Forge which is a mixture of a Japanese katana and a European duelling sword. Tempered steel functional swords are made by Windlass Steelcrafts some of which are based on the Dungeons and Dragons game or the series of books, The Wheel of Time.

Generation 2 make Lord of the Rings fantasy swords who also manufacture a sizable fantasy sword called the Sword of Chaos, though the main part of their products are medieval sword replicas that are historically accurate. Another sword maker that we would recommend is Darksword Armoury which turn out strong functional fantasy swords. Some of their models are based on traditional fantasies including Lord of the Rings and several are unique fantasy designs. They are also the only manufacturers of the Anduril Sword of Aragorn.

Conclusion

Do some homework before buying a fantasy sword. Make sure you are familiar with the difference between functional and ornamental swords and buy one that is suitable for your needs. Do not expect a cheap reproduction to be useful for anything more than putting on your wall. For a superior fantasy weapon choose one from a good manufacturer and keep away from the cut-rate reproductions that are imported from Pakistan or China.
