The Essential Roles Of A Midwife
Midwives are trained professionals who assists women in their delivery needs not only on the birthing process, but all throughout the pregnancy stage as well. In the United States, the general classes of midwives are either direct entry midwives or nurse midwives and they usually collaborate with either the obstetrician or physician to deliver and provide care to both mother and child. The main difference is in the training that they receive as well as the experiences they undergo. Generally, midwives also function the same way as a doctor, but they are also able to provide additional services in the care of the pregnant woman.
Because a midwife’s training focuses on providing care and comfort, they are able to place crucial importance to the safety of both the mother and the child within. She does not actually encourage a pregnant woman to take pain medication and invasive procedures during labor or birth process. A midwife’s main goal is to make sure that the mother will have a normal and safe delivery as much as possible.
One important role a midwife plays is that they are able to reduce the amount of time of the labor, and they forego cesarean section and the use of other medical devices. The pregnant woman will be comforted by the fact that the midwife is there to provide support all throughout the delivery process.
Midwives are also able to provide some pre-natal advice and check ups. The main thing that they do is they check to make sure that everything is moving along normally. They are like doctors, wherein they can be consulted on for any pre-natal check ups. The only difference is that you can call her to come to your house for pre-natal check-ups.
Last, but not the least, midwives usually spend more time with you unlike doctors. One of the advantages of midwives is that they have more time looking after you which shows central importance is given to the pregnant woman. A midwife is able to have a deeper sense of relationship with the pregnant woman which will provide a huge assistance in the confidence level when it comes to delivering the baby. This is perhaps the greatest role many women want in terms of selecting their midwives.
Those are the different and important roles of midwives. Midwives play a very crucial role as a comforting and helpful hand during the pregnancy itself, aside from the critical role they play during the delivery. Basically, it just shows that midwives are professional workers who will be able to provide comfort during the whole duration of the birth process.
