Single mum and son make it big in perfume business
Posted on Mar 29, 2009 under Uncategorized | No CommentAfter three decades of working in a small and cramped perfume store in Penang, Saffar Noor quit her job and started her own perfume business. The single mother and her son, Josafri Johari collected all their own money and opened a perfume factory in Glugor, Penang in late April 2007. The pair buy fine fragrances from Egypt and bottle them in Malaysia under their own label, ‘One Drop’. A collection of eight bottles is sold at a very reasonable RM40. They had modelled their own store on a popular London perfume shop which they both adore. They employed a local perfumer, who formerly worked at the houses of Escada and Armani and is now in Paris creating a new range of perfume for them. The products are sold through various dealers and distributors for more than 500,000 users in Malaysia alone. They are now looking to branch their business out and target a more global audience to make maximum profit.
The initial idea originated from when the single mother was asked to sell Tudung material for commissions. Since then she has had a yearning for sales and entrepreneurial business. Saffar then moved onto to selling cosmetics and perfume for commissions were she then begun her own company. When she started her own business the perfume sold so well that she appointed numerous “agents” at hotels, factories and in the high street to sell it. Now she has reached a global level with her interesting story of success and she is sure to be getting some more as she has recently been offered a unqiue contract from L’Oreal cosmetics in Paris which she has gladly accepted. She will still get to keep her own brand but the rights will be exclusive to L’Oreal.
Her story has truly been inspiring to many single mothers across the world and there is no reason as to why someone else could not adopt the same ethos and start up their very own business from home.
