Video Description

Contrary to popular belief, most "full sun vegetables" cannot tolerate full sun conditions in the middle of summer. These native understory plants did not adapt to tolerate full summer sun, so their defenses collapse, and that causes of most pest and disease problems in summer heat. The solution: install shade cloth to mimic the dappled light conditions of a forest! Using shade cloth has provided enormous benefits to my summer vegetable garden.

But, there is an inflection point at some point in late summer / early fall when the shade becomes too much, and the plants begin suffering from lack of photosynthesis. This video will show you the 4 warning signs your plants are getting too much shade. When you see these signs, it is time to remove shade cloth from your garden.

You can also use this video as a garden layout and design guide to determine if certain areas of your yard and garden are too shady for some crops. Fruiting crops like tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squashes and melons demand significant light to photosynthesize sufficiently for heavy crop production, so we must always strike a balance between not enough sun and too much sun. If you see these signs on your plants, they likely need more sunlight.
